Slums and Homelessness of TokyoSan'ya, located in the south of Tokyo, is an area which can be referred to as the slum of Tokyo. With ⅙ of the population classified as poor, many of the population are forced out of their (tiny) houses and into the area, which is known as a place for people with mental disorders, poverty, TB and alcoholism. It is home to 25,000 people, with apx. 9,000 considered homeless. Homeless people also live in the main park, Ueno, and locals fear walking in it at night time.

These pictures are examples of the places and conditions people have to live in. On the far right, the picture shows a birds eye view of a slum area in San'ya, Tokyo. The middle picture shows a struggling man of which is most seen around these areas because of the poverty and loss. The picture on the left is a sad image because it shows that even though it may seem a "cheap" area to live in compared to the city, some people can't even afford a tiny cardboard house. Some people have to survive with just their own belongings.
